HERB & DOROTHY

What an amazing story!  If you love something, you will find a way to do it and the Vogels found a way to become art collectors on a very modest income.   I can’t wait to see this.

Who knows, maybe one day they will make a film about Lesley & George:  The Frenz Art Collection.   One can dare to dream.

Lesley – we watched this movie, you should too but I can assure you – you and George will never want to be just like the “Vogel’s”…(I found it funny that we share a name, you know Fogle/Vogel is actually the same surname) They are really passionate about collecting but when you see their living arrangements – they may have gotten a segment on the show “hoarders”. Kind of creeped me out to see how they lived with the art

I loved this movie! I think my favourite part was the sister-in-law who clearly disapproved, both of their leading edge tastes in art, and of their reluctance to sell even a few valuable pieces to fund a better lifestyle. She represented the “real world” to me, the voice of reason who would say “Why buy/keep all this art when you could be doing more sensible things with the money?”

What I really enjoyed was the idea that someone would come into your studio, demand to see everything and talk to you about your work, and then pick a bunch of the best stuff and buy it. (And never resell it, that’ important too.) Eventually they became famous enough, that if the Vogels bought your work, it had cachet. Is there an artist alive who wouldn’t love that process? To be seen and truly appreciated is as big a gift as the payment for the artwork.
