The holidays are upon us! And I love them. I can’t help it. Much to Mr. Forager’s chagrin, I totally get into the music, the decorating, the cooking, and of course, the gift giving! It seems every blogger does a gift guide, so why shouldn’t I get in on the action? So each Friday until Christmas, the regular Friday Design Finds posts will be replaced with a selection of gifts for the artsy folks on your list!
We begin with gifts for the Artsy Naturalist– there’s no reason why buying for nature lovers should be limited to hiking boots and camping supplies!
Something about this time of year makes long for warm & cozy things. Felt played a big role in the holiday decor I grew up with, so I love seeing so many modern spins on this classic material. Here are a few of my recent felt art finds!
I’m a huge fan of combining artistry with functionality. Why should we settle for something boring when we could fill our worlds with the extraordinary? Time to rip down that contractor’s special chandelier you’ve been hating on since you moved in. Maybe one of these will inspire you to think outside the Home Depot box. Check out these fantastically artsy options!
An artsy scarf, that is! Anyone who knows me well knows that I am a bonafide scarf junkie. I wear them all year round and my favorite is a vintage silver crocheted scarf that my mom wore in the 70s. It has such a bohemian, artsy air. Turns out I’m not the only artsy in love with the neck cloths. Here are some wearable sculpture faves I’ve discovered lately!
I’m so bummed to be living in the desert during prime scarf-sporting season! Mr. Forager & I are headed up to Idyllwild tomorrow.. maybe I’ll be able to break out one of my faves. Happy weekend!

Happy Friday, Artsies!! You may have noticed that the Friday round-ups have been a bit more design oriented of late. It wasn’t intentional on my part at first, but once I noticed it, I decided to just dive in completely! Artsiness abounds in all kinds of places– fashion and interior design, architecture, consumer goods, you name it. So beginning today, each Friday I’ll bring you a group of artsy design goodies that I find inspiring. Hope you enjoy!
Secret AF tidbit: The one and only time I was ever spanked as a child was for drawing on my bedroom walls with a permanent marker. Now, there are wall coverings made especially for coloring or you can just draw/paint directly onto your wall ( if you’re an adult & own your walls ). Instantly artsy vertical space.

With the continuing improvements in digital printing, designers and artists are able to collaborate in amazing ways. I’ve been noticing a trend toward printed, wearable art incorporated into gorgeously designed fashion. Here are a few of my faves, spotted on Pinterest recently!

While Mr. Forager & I are on the road, making our way to California, we’re rerunning Artsy Forager’s most popular posts. This post originally published on February 1, 2012. Enjoy!
Here I am ready to make yet another embarrassing confession to you: I’m nosy. I’m not a Facebook stalker or anything like that, but when the hubby and I are out for a walk around whatever neighborhood in which we happen to find ourselves living that month ( haha ), I can’t help but spy inside people’s homes. I mean, I don’t park myself in the bushes like a Peeping Lesley, but I love catching glimpses of other people’s interiors. So of course, peeking inside the homes of creative folks is irresistible to me!
So, for a little mid-week fun, I thought we’d catch a glimpse of the homes of some very creative ladies.. all artists in their own way.

I love the way artists’ living spaces so often reflect the palette and style of their work– never more true than in Kelly Reemsten’s Mid-Century inspired L.A. loft. The artist known for her pop-style paintings of ladies dressed in vintage garb dresses her home in much the same way. A neutral background compliments pops of color and classically mod furnishings.

The home of Janie Bryant, the brilliant costume designer behind the to-die-for fashions on Mad Men, is as glamourous as you would expect, with subtle hints at the retro styles she embraces on the job.

Is it any surprise that fashion maven Kate Spade’s home has a classic, preppy feel? But I love that her choice of artwork reveals a personality behind the perfection.

The Brooklyn apartment of artist Lily Stockman is an eclectic, comforting space peppered with global influences reflecting her travels, which include a recent artist’s residency in India. Just as in her work, Stockman’s home is filled with simple patterns and soft yet vibrant color.

There is something about this time of year that makes me long to go back to school. OK, maybe not. But I do look longingly at the school supplies on display everywhere, wishing I had a reason to buy a Trapper Keeper and some brand new #2 pencils! Not only do I love Anthropologie for their use & promotion of work by artists I love like Sarah Ashley Longshore and Dolan Geiman, but they also have a beautiful collection of studious accessories perfect for any artsy. Here are a few of my favorites–
Artsiness isn’t just about the art we create or appreciate. It is the way we live, the way we treat others, how we carry ourselves. Over the course of the last year, I’ve read so much regarding how the way we chose to clothe ourselves says so much about who we are or who we are trying to be. I’m a firm believer in artsy self-expression in any form! In this new feature, Wear the Artsy, we’ll pair a piece of artwork with a piece of clothing or accessory that captures the spirit of the art.
Hiya Artsies! Oh boy, so many exciting things happening ’round these parts! Feel like I’m all over the place in the best sort of way. This week, I have a guest post up over on the Image South blog. If you’re not familiar with Image South, they are a publisher of fine art prints offering beautiful work at affordable prices. For my guest post, I took one IS print, Essential Line #4 by Mitra Ghaffari, carefully chose versatile Larson Juhl framing and then showcased it in three very different spaces. Head over to the Image South blog to check it out!
