Design Foraging: Get Out Your 3D Glasses, Ya’ll

Ok, so I’m not really using 3D in quite the right context in that there title.  But doesn’t the whole 3D thing still seem terribly futuristic, even though every other movie these days is being made that way?  I admit, I tend to avoid 3D movies if I can.  I think it goes back to a harrowing 3D movie snake experience at Marineland as a youngin’.  Thus solidifying my dislike of snakes and my skepticism about 3D films.  But 3D printed jewelry?!  That’s a snake of a different color.  The idea that you can design an object on a computer and then print it, not on flat paper but in real, three dimensional proportions and in mediums other than paper was mind blowing! I’m just beginning to explore this world, but check out some of my favorite finds so far!

    Friday Design Finds: Cuff ‘Em

There was a time, prior to marrying Mr. F and hitting my fourth decade ( gulp! ), when I was a teeny little wisp of a thing and my wrists were so small some bracelets fell right off.  Enter = my love for cuffs!  Not only were they easily adjustable, but I loved ( and still love! ) their simple, bold chunkiness!  So as it warms up here in Southern Cali and I begin to bare my arms to the world once again, here are a few artsy cuffs I’m loving!

We’re heading over to Palm Springs on Sunday to spend the afternoon with my cousin whom I haven’t seen since we were tweens. Supposed to be a beautiful SoCal day, think I’ll be busting out a cuff or two!

**Uncommon Goods recently sent me the Woven Wooden Cuff by Henry Wischusen for review.  I’ve been looking for an organic, neutral cuff, so I was excited to receive it and try it out!  The packaging for the bracelet was thoughtful, a lovely little paper box and recycled t-shirt pouch, plus I appreciated that UG included an artist’s bio with the bracelet.  Artist acknowledgement always goes a long way with me!  The bracelet design is beautiful, I love the intertwining wood and it looks lovely on my wrist.  I do wish, though, that the wood had been covered a bit more with a resin or coating of some sort, as the edges and veneer are still a bit rough, so I will have to be careful when wearing it with more delicate fabrics.  The cuff runs very small, so for women with larger wrists than mine ( and as previously mentioned, mine are pretty small! ), the fit may not be very comfortable. With all that said, though, it is a pretty little cuff, handmade, organic in material and look and I will proudly wear it all summer long, I’m sure!

Artsy Forager received material goods in exchange for the above review, but all opinions are her own.

Artsies, are you interested in seeing more product reviews on the blog?  I’m still on the fence about doing them.  Inquiring minds want to know..

  • Wear the Artsy: When Night Falls in the Forest

I just love the idea of translating the artwork we love into the jewelry and clothes we wear.  After all, the artwork we love is an extension of our souls, so why shouldn’t the way we clothe ourselves be, too?  In this edition of Wear the Artsy, Featured Artist Diana Lemieux’s When Night Falls in the Forest pairs beautifully with an agate ring from Terrain.

I think any maiden of the forest would be thrilled for this ring to adorn her artsy finger!

  • Friday Design Finds: A Touch of Brass

Friday Design Finds: A Touch of Brass

Until recently, the word brass conjured up images of hideous early 1980’s decor.  But brass is staging a comeback and when combined with wood, makes for a design statement that is at once organic and modern.  Here are a few brass & wood combos I’m especially intrigued by this week..

  • Artsy Holiday 2012: For the Artsy Modernist

For some Artsies, the holidays can be a bit of decorative overload.  I’m talkin’ about those clean line, simple shape loving Modernists who crave the sleek and spare.  For this week’s Artsy Holiday installment, here are a few ideas for the Artsy Modernist on your list!

  • Artsy Holiday: For the Artsy Naturalist

Artsy Holiday: For the Artsy Naturalist

The holidays are upon us!  And I love them.  I can’t help it.  Much to Mr. Forager’s chagrin, I totally get into the music, the decorating, the cooking, and of course, the gift giving!  It seems every blogger does a gift guide, so why shouldn’t I get in on the action?  So each Friday until Christmas, the regular Friday Design Finds posts will be replaced with a selection of gifts for the artsy folks on your list!

We begin with gifts for the Artsy Naturalist– there’s no reason why buying for nature lovers should be limited to hiking boots and camping supplies!

  • Wear the Artsy: Painted Jewels

    Wear the Artsy: Painted Jewels

Artsiness isn’t just about the art we create or appreciate.  It is the way we live, the way we treat others, how we carry ourselves.  Over the course of the last year, I’ve read so much regarding how the way we chose to clothe ourselves says so much about who we are or who we are trying to be.  I’m a firm believer in artsy self-expression in any form!  In this new feature, Wear the Artsy, we’ll pair a piece of artwork with a piece of clothing or accessory that captures the spirit of the art.

    art | jewelry

In today’s pairing, our inspiration piece is this gorgeous, colorful abstract by artist Dura Hana AKA D.U.R.A.  What better way to wear those beautiful jeweltones than with that cheery Tom Binns Riri Painted Swarovski Cuff?

Do you have suggestions for a piece of art to be featured on Wear the Artsy?  Comment below and let’s see how we can wear our favorites!

  • Friday Finds: Inspired Geometrics

    Friday Finds: Inspired Geometrics

As with many right-brained folks, math is not my strong suit.  But one thing I loved about taking geometry was the analysis of shape and how each is formed using different angles.  It seems that many creatives are finding geometrics inspiring these days.  Check out my artsy geometric finds for this week!

PS– You may have noticed that I’ve switched up the Friday’s title from Friday Faves to Friday Finds.  I’ll be using the Friday round-up to not only explore what’s trending in the art world, but to also share my inspiring finds throughout the world of design!
