If you’re a painter in the studio, you know what a challenge it can be to avoid getting paint splattered all over yourself! When I came across the wonderfully whimsical work of Studio Arhoj, I loved the glazes melting over the tops of ceramic shapes, reminding me of various objects that tend to get covered in paint in a studio. Plus, who couldn’t love those expressive little eyes?!
To see more offerings by Studio Arhoj, please visit their website. You can find a list of retailers all over the world there, as well!
I have a great love for wind chimes. My paternal grandfather used to fashion his own from aluminum pipes and every time I hear breezy chimes, I’m transported back to summer days in the cool grass of my grandparents’ backyard. So when I spotted these Aura Chimes by Seattle based design house Ladies & Gentlemen Studio ( in collaboration with artist Nicholas Nyland ) on The Jealous Curator, I just had to share them with you!
Handmade in small edition, each chime is unique, made of metal, wood, and leather components complimenting Nicholas Nyland ceramic pieces. Such a lovely modern take on an ancient ornament!
Mr. F and I can definitely relate to snails, turtles, basically any of those I-carry-my-home-on-my-back types. Although technically, we carry home in our Hyundai Santa Fe.. still, we feel a kinship. 😉 But what if you really could carry your home on your back? These utilitarian sculptures by Julia Gabriel are hand-dyed canvas backpacks inspired by architecture and well, they are the most inspired backpacks I’ve ever seen!
I mean, how fun would it be to carry your books & laptop to your favorite coffee shop in one of these? This series is available through Buy Some Damn Art until November 5th. Check out the show online at BSDA and see more of Julia Gabriel‘s work on her website.
If you’ve been reading the blog for a while, you’ve probably guessed that Mr. Forager & I are the outdoorsy types. Hiking, biking, camping, did I mention hiking? All stuff we love. Are you an artsy sport type? Just because you’re sportin’ it up doesn’t mean you can’t be artsy. Today’s design finds prove it.
Let’s face it. We’re a tech obsessed society! Most of us get a little antsy when we aren’t tethered to our tablet, smartphone or laptop. These gadgets have become ubiquitous parts of our lives, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t give them our own artsy spin! I found a few favorite artsy iPhone cases over on Society6..
It will be a sad day if I ever develop lactose intolerance. I love milk. Especially with a big piece of chocolate cake. 😉 It looks like there are some other artsy folks who can’t get enough of the white stuff either! Check out these artsy milk carton designs–
When we arrived in Seattle and pretty much for the last few weeks, the weather has been glorious. As in uncharacteristic bright skies and unseasonable warmth. At first we thought it some kind of cosmic joke– we’d left Florida, then most recently the California desert, to escape the heat, thinking we’d be safe from it in Seattle.. But we found that we didn’t flee in vain. The grey skies, soft drizzle and cool temperatures returned this week, leaving me ready for a quiet day spent doing rainy day fun. Here are a few artsy essentials I found to aid in the soggy fun!
On damp days, we love to sit for hours in a coffee shop, chatting and reading. Mr. F likes to tour breweries ( that’s on sunny days, too 😉 ) and I love to spend rainy afternoons wandering around a favorite art museum. What are some of your favorite activities for the days of grey?
So if you read yesterday’s late afternoon post, you’ve heard the news– Mr. Forager and I have officially moved to Seattle! That’s right, no more traveling around, no more putting up with someone else’s decor taste or grody furnishings. We’ve rented a sweet little mid-century apartment in a beautiful Seattle neighborhood and I’ve been completely obsessed with furnishing it. Since I’m not working yet ( Did I mention I now have to get a real J-O-B? ), we’ve been furnishing on a “for now” budget until we have two incomes coming in. And then there’s all my lovely home goodies in storage back in Florida. I can’t wait to see them again, but am having serious issues remembering what I kept! So I’ve been doing a bit of day dreaming today.. looking at lovelies that would be perfect for our first real home together. My favorite colors, a little artsy for me, a bit rustic for Mr. F.
For today’s edition of Design Foraging, I’m excited to introduce you to online retailer, Erie Drive! Don’t these make you want to spend a day picnicking?! Have a wonderful weekend, Artsies! Mr. Forager & I are leaving Joshua Tree tomorrow, will spend a few days with friends in San Diego and then make our way up the Coast to SEATTLE!! We are so excited we can’t stand it. PLUS, I’ve got some fantastic Guest Foragers coming in next week. I’ll be in and out around these parts for the next few weeks, but can’t wait to start sharing Artsy finds directly from my favorite city!
I don’t know about you, but I love anything that’s just a bit off.. wonky if you will. So of course, I’m loving this collection of Wonky Pots by Anthropologie Featured Artist Vanja Bazdulj. A little odd, a little irregular, a whole lot wonderful! Here are a few of my favorites!
