Please enjoy this oldie by goodie while I spend the next two weeks camping, packing, visiting with the mom-in-law and moving from WA to OR. See you in September!
I can’t believe it is the end of another week already. The time is quickly flying by as George and I prepare to make our way to the West Coast. I plan to take LOTS of photos both on our trip and once we have arrived. But alas, I am merely the point & shoot type. Oh, I try to compose a nice shot or get all artsy with the angles and such, but I have a long way to go.
I took a few photography classes in high school and college and well, let’s just say I never did quite get the hang of it. I am mechanically challenged to say the least. I have such respect for fine art photographers, because I know how difficult getting that perfect shot can be. So today’s faves feature some of my favorite photogs!
My husband and I look at a lot of maps. For the next several years, we’re moving to a new locale every three months, plus we spend weekends exploring the areas surrounding wherever we happen to be living. Oh, and there are also all the future travel plans. Like maybe a stint in Thailand in 2013. ( I KNOW!.. so exciting!! ). We use whatever maps we can get our hands on.. Google maps online at home, GPS in the car and of course, our good ol’ reliable atlas. Currently, we’re pouring over maps as we anxiously await the locale of G’s next work assignment. A month from now I will be typing the Friday Faves from a whole new setting, crazy isn’t it?!
Turns out we aren’t the only ones inspired by maps. Check out some of my favorite artists who incorporate these geographic illustrations into their own artwork. Happy travels!

How about it, Artsies? Anyone mapping out adventures for the weekend? Have a maptastic artist to share? Do tell!
Maybe it’s the little girl inside me. Maybe it’s a way to relive the days when my imagination was unshackled and my days were carefree. Who knows. Whatever the reason, I am always drawn to whimsical, fanciful imagery of girls. The kind fairy tales are made of. These Friday Faves are everything nice.

Happy 4th of July weekend, Artsies! As soon as the hubby gets off work today, we’re heading out for a little camping in the Port Townsend area ( For all my East Coast readers, that’s North of where we are in Aberdeen, PT is on the Northeastern tip of the Olympic Penisula ). I’ve never been further North than Seattle, so I am super excited. Anyone else doing a little holiday camping this weekend? To get me ( and you! ) in the mood, here’s some of my favorite campy art..

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! Mix in something artsy along with all your outdoor celebrating!
Artists have long held a fascination for horses. Some of the earliest cave drawings were filled with equine imagery. Modern artists are no different. Today’s faves feature artists with a penchant for ponies. Enjoy!
Yesterday I went out searching for some artsy inspiration in the area around Aberdeen. I’m sorry to say that, though I visited a couple of galleries in Ocean Shores, I found only one artist’s work that caused me to take a second look. Unfortunately, most of what was there was pretty touristy, not-great-art-but-there-must-be-a-market-for-it kind of stuff. So I came home feeling a tiny bit defeated.
To give myself a pick-me-up, I watched an episode of So You Think You Can Dance ( guilty pleasure confession time! ). While the commercials were playing, I found myself glancing out of the windows of my office/studio and found myself inspired. So I started sketching– for the first time in a long time. It turns out I did find some artsy inspiration yesterday, from a surprising combination, the view of Aberdeen out of our windows and my own inner spirit.
So today, we’re celebrating other artists who’ve inspired me to make the most out of my current view! On with the show!
