  • Friday Faves: Different Kind of Hanging O’ The Greens

Friday Faves: Different Kind of Hanging O’ The Greens

Sometime in my late 20s I went through a slight obsession with the Irish part of my heritage & Irish culture in general.  I think it stemmed mainly from too many Maeve Binchy books and multiple PBS viewings of Riverdance.  Add to that the fact that my husband thinks Guinness is the greatest thing since, well, Guinness, and it isn’t any surprise that we love St. Patrick’s Day.  So to get you in the mood for a little Erin Go Bragh, how about some artwork to remind us of the Emerald Isle?

  • Friday Faves: The White Album

    Friday Faves: The White Album

Once upon a time, I was bored by white.  The more color the better.  And around age 13, the more purple the better! 😉  But as my eye has grown and matured, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the purity and peace of white.  It calms us, brings shadows and textures to life and provides a place of rest in a saturated world.  Would you like to join me on a little mini-vacay from color today?

  • Friday Faves: Taste the Rainbow

    Friday Faves: Taste the Rainbow

Mmmm.. Skittles.  Now that I have you craving some multi-colored chewy candies, let’s talk rainbows.  The ubiquitous symbol of hope seems to be everywhere these days.  Artists are embracing prismatic colors and shapes like mad!  Check out a few examples I found..

  • Friday Faves: Bookworms

    Friday Faves: Bookworms

I have a long, ongoing love affair.  With books.  I blame my grandparents, who were avid readers and every night spent with them was ended curled up in my grandmother’s lap listening to her read.  Growing up, books were a favorite escape, summers were often spent with my nose buried in story after story.  I came very close to pursuing a degree in literature rather than art history ( I was obviously never destined to be rich! ).  But one of the best things about studying art history was all the stories.  The best of both worlds.  Here are some artists who seem as obsessed with books as I am!

It's Story Time IV by Christopher Stott
Come With Me by Na Zhao ( via ArtLink )
Blonde But Not Forgotten by Harland Miller

  • Friday Faves: Masters Remade

    Friday Faves: Masters Remade

If you’ve ever taken an art class, I’m sure you’ve copied the work of a “master”.  Redrawing and painting great works of art is one of the tried and true methods used to teach basic skills.  I love the way some artists are taking masterworks and recreating them in fun and interesting ways.  Check ’em out!

  • Friday Faves: Hearts A’Flutter

    Friday Faves: Hearts A’Flutter

I used to hate Valentine’s Day.  Back when I was single, my friends and I often enjoyed Anti-Valentine celebrations.  But now that I’m an old married lady ( it’s been an entire year of marital bliss! ), I revel in it.  So today in honor of the upcoming V-Day, dear Artsies, I’m sharing my obnoxious lovey-doveyness with you!  Here are some of my mushy-love-stuff faves..

  • Friday Faves: With Tangerine Trees and Marmalade Skies

Friday Faves: With Tangerine Trees and Marmalade Skies

Each year, Pantone announces its “Color of the Year”.  The color authority combs the world looking for influential color and its Color of the Year proclamation affects design decisions in fashion, interiors, products, packaging, you name it.  This year’s color is a bold and vibrant reddish-orange, Tangerine Tango.  Artists, always ahead of the curve, have been embracing orange for quite some time.  I know it’s always been one of my own favorite hues.  Take a peek at some of these lovely examples of tangerine dreams!

  • Friday Faves: Paris Is Always A Good Idea

Friday Faves: Paris Is Always A Good Idea

Perhaps it began with too many pre-teen viewings of Funny Face or Gigi.  Or maybe it was even earlier with The Aristocats.  For whatever reason, France in general and Paris in particular, have always been a source of fascination and inspiration to me, as it has to countless artists through the ages.  Recently, it seems as if Paris is just in the air.  So, today, mon chere Artsies, I bring to you a few of my recent Frenchy favorites.  Vive la France!

‘Tis a new year and with that comes all sorts of lists documenting the good, the bad and the ugly from the past 12 months.  While there’s certainly no bad or ugly here at Artsy Forager, I thought it would be a kick to award our featured art some high schoolish superlatives.  Put your mittens on your kittens and away we go!
