Design Foraging: Sarah Ashley Longshore at Anthropologie

I love everything that Sarah Ashley Longshore does.  You can see all the evidence right here on the blog.  And when she teams up with one of my favorite retailers, well, I just can’t resist sharing the artsy goodness with you!  The artist’s latest collaboration with Anthropologie features her iconic Audrey Hepburn paintings on a tres chic line of travel bags and weekenders.

These remind me so much of “the golden age of travel”, when taking a plane ride meant getting dressed to the nines and a matching set of luggage was the ultimate luxury.  Inside each of the larger bags is a wonderful little “handwritten” note from the artist.  A perfect gift for that artsy girly girl!

See more of the Jetsetter line at the Anthropologie website.  You can see original work by Sarah Ashley Longshore on her website.  And follow her own jet setting adventures on Instagram!

  • Design Foraging: Liz Tran and Her Electric Necklaces

Design Foraging: Liz Tran and Her Electric Necklaces

I am a long time fan of Seattle artist Liz Tran. Evidenced in posts here here and here.  The color and movement in her work creates such a lovely, happy atmosphere.  Obviously, its work that I return to again and again.  Following an artist residency in North Iceland this June, Tran created a series of Electric Necklaces out of ceramic pieces found on the beach in Reykjavik. Most of the elements in the necklaces are old electrical components that have been worn by the North Atlantic and then transformed by the painter’s hand.

Aren’t they magical?  You can see more work from Liz Tran on her website.  And if you really want to stir up your own green eyed monster, follow Liz on Instagram, where she is taking you along on her very artsy tour through Frances.  Tres jaloux!

They’re creamy and they’re dreamy.  And I want to make them mine, each and every one!  I’m talking about the ceramic work of California artist Sara Paloma.  Whether it’s the color of the glaze, the texture or the shapes that are just so, there is something about these pieces that grabs my heart.

Just so subtle and supple.. like a wisp of cloud.  Her work is definitely going on my “coveting” list!  Read more about Sara Paloma on her website and see more work available for purchase in her Etsy shop.  And she’s having a sale!!

PS– You may have noticed that I’ve stopped doing Design Foraging on Fridays.  There were just too many artists I wanted to share, so I decided to do five artist features each week instead of four!  Design Foraging will now be an occasional posting, at least once a month, probably more. 😉

    Design Foraging: Julia Gabriel

Mr. F and I can definitely relate to snails, turtles, basically any of those I-carry-my-home-on-my-back types.  Although technically, we carry home in our Hyundai Santa Fe.. still, we feel a kinship. 😉  But what if you really could carry your home on your back?  These utilitarian sculptures by Julia Gabriel are hand-dyed canvas backpacks inspired by architecture and well, they are the most inspired backpacks I’ve ever seen!

I mean, how fun would it be to carry your books & laptop to your favorite coffee shop in one of these?  This series is available through Buy Some Damn Art until November 5th.  Check out the show online at BSDA and see more of Julia Gabriel‘s work on her website.

    Design Foraging: All Roads Design

As a dutiful child of the 70s, I love crochet, macrame, all those disco-era handicrafts. Though I don’t always love that era’s color palette as much as my sister-in-law– you guys should see the 1970s era RV she is redoing, appropriately named Gertrude. Anywhoo.. I recently stumbled upon the work of All Roads Design, I knew I wanted to share it with you! It’s like art you can pet. And I so would, every day!

I think one of these would add beautiful texture to our one day Northwest dream home. He ( gotta be a he with all that hair ) would mix so well with all the other artwork I’m coveting. Hey, an Artsy can dream, right? Have a great weekend, Artsies! We’re hoping to take a little road trip this weekend, will fill you in on Monday!

Design Foraging: Be an Artsy Sport

If you’ve been reading the blog for a while, you’ve probably guessed that Mr. Forager & I are the outdoorsy types.  Hiking, biking, camping, did I mention hiking?  All stuff we love.  Are you an artsy sport type?  Just because you’re sportin’ it up doesn’t mean you can’t be artsy.  Today’s design finds prove it.

  • Design Foraging: Shannon Garson

    Design Foraging: Shannon Garson

The advent of the Fall season always makes my nesting instincts come out!  While we’re living our vagabond life, I’ll have to settle for baking, buying autumnal flowers and trying out new seasonal recipes instead of what I’d really like to do– paint, hang artwork, rearrange furniture and seasonalize ( new word! ) my home.  So dear Artsies, today I’m vicariously living through any Aussie readers who may have the opportunity to buy the lovely porcelain work of Shannon Garson.  Her palette and texture reminds me of bare tree branches and the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot.

Design Foraging: Get an Artsy iPhone

Let’s face it.  We’re a tech obsessed society!  Most of us get a little antsy when we aren’t tethered to our tablet, smartphone or laptop.  These gadgets have become ubiquitous parts of our lives, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t give them our own artsy spin!  I found a few favorite artsy iPhone cases over on Society6..

    Design Foraging: Got Milk

It will be a sad day if I ever develop lactose intolerance.  I love milk.  Especially with a big piece of chocolate cake. 😉  It looks like there are some other artsy folks who can’t get enough of the white stuff either!  Check out these artsy milk carton designs–

  • Design Foraging: Marzia Rossi

    Design Foraging: Marzia Rossi

As a part of the purging to travel light process, over the weekend, I went through my jewelry  and decided what pieces I just had to have with me on the road.  While I have some lovely pieces– many of them vintage courtesy of my maternal grandmother who had a large collection of costume jewelry from the 1950s-80s– there’s something about most pieces that just don’t quite feel me.  A little too safe, a little too ordinary, which I hope this Artsy is not!  I would love to revamp my collection and I’ve got my covetous eye on these beauties by Italian jewelry artist Marzia Rossi!

Her work is so delicate and the organic materials and shapes are right up my alley.  And the construction details?  Just might be the best part.  Want to see more? Head over to Marzia Rossi‘s website and drool all over your keyboard.
