I just love it when artists translate their work into functional design!  So I was super excited to see New Orleans artist Amanda Stone Talley roll out a line of fabric based on her patterned paintings.

    Design Foraging: Kristina Crestin Design

Design foraging isn’t always just about finding artfully designed wares.  It’s also about finding those folk out there doing their thing with an artsy bent.  In my art consulting days, I loved working with interior designers who had an appreciation and eye for artwork, incorporating well chosen work into their designs not just for aesthetic appreciation, but also to begin to create a personal collection for their client.  Boston area’s Kristina Crestin Design knows how to work magic in a room through icing the cake with artwork.  Check out some examples of Kristina’s art-centric designs!

Finally, Kristina has been working with a favorite Artsy Forager artist, Christina Baker, on a special artwork commission for a client.  Here’s a sneak peak!

I can not wait to see Christina’s piece ( in love with that palette! ) installed in the finished space!  I have no doubt it will add just the right touch of artsy pixie dust to Kristina Crestin’s design.  Want to see more work from this artsy designer?  Check out Kristina Crestin’s website.  You can also follow her blog!

    Design Foraging: Oh Baby, Baby

Have you ever looked back at your baby photos and wondered, “What in the world was Mom thinking!”?  While there is still plenty of cheesy baby fashion to be had, the parents of today’s newborns have more choices than ever– I’m loving this trend toward artsy onesies!

    Design Foraging: The Object Enthusiast

In our traveling, some of the things I’ve missed most have been my beautiful functionals.  What’s a beautiful functional, you say?  It’s an object that serves a purpose, while still being a bit of eye candy.  Like my gorgeous carnival blue glass jars that sit in my bathroom, or a pretty little dish at the kitchen sink to corral rings and such.  We’re having our pretties shipped from Florida soon and I can’t wait to see them all again!  Until then, I’m totally drooling over these beautiful functionals by Emily Reinhardt aka The Object Enthusiast.

Emily’s pieces are each handmade and painted, each so pretty and unique.  She’s moving in mid-July, so now is the perfect time to snatch up one of these lovelies at 20% off in her Etsy shop!  Just use the coupon code SUMMER20 when you check out.  I must admit, I am seriously tempted!

  • Design Foraging: Objet Trouve by Codor Designs

Design Foraging: Objet Trouve by Codor Designs

Note: Out of respect for these artists, I’d like to set the record straight.  This post is getting a lot of traffic from Pinterest and I’m happy, as I’m sure the artists would be, that they are inspiring so many, however the mirrors pictured here are most definitely NOT a DIY project made my myself.  I have no idea how the DIY thing has been perpetuated around Pinterest, but these are incredible artisan crafted sculptural mirrors created by Seattle designers Tamara Codor and Sterling Voss AKA Codor Designs.  Not in any way a homemade DIY.  😉

I admit, I have a thing for mirrors.  I don’t think it has anything to do with vanity ( anyone who knows me will attest that can’t be it ).  I think it’s more about how they have the power to be functional sculpture.  An interesting mirror, like an intriguing piece of artwork, instantly elevates a room.  As a painting does, a mirror can become a portal for imagination.  This week, I spied the work of Seattle design duo, Tamara Codor and Sterling Voss of Codor Designs and immediately fell hard for their Objet Trouve series of sculptural mirrors.

I have no doubt one of these beauties would be stunning on a reclaimed wood wall in my beach house on the Oregon Coast.  What?  An artsy can dream, right?!  To see more work from Codor Designs, be sure to check out the website full of gorgeously crafted furnishings.

    Design Foraging: Coast to Coast

Confession time:  I’m one of those people who sweat it just a teensy bit ( ok maybe a lot on a really hot day ) when a glass full of cold liquid is resting on a wood or glass surface.  Oh the rings!  My little OCD heart is pounding just thinking about it!  The cure for such an ailment?  Super artsy coasters, of course!  Here are a few of my faves..

  • Design Foraging: Rainy Day Artsy

    Design Foraging: Rainy Day Artsy

When we arrived in Seattle and pretty much for the last few weeks, the weather has been glorious.  As in uncharacteristic bright skies and unseasonable warmth.  At first we thought it some kind of cosmic joke– we’d left Florida, then most recently the California desert, to escape the heat, thinking we’d be safe from it in Seattle..  But we found that we didn’t flee in vain.  The grey skies, soft drizzle and cool temperatures returned this week, leaving me ready for a quiet day spent doing rainy day fun.  Here are a few artsy essentials I found to aid in the soggy fun!

On damp days, we love to sit for hours in a coffee shop, chatting and reading.  Mr. F likes to tour breweries ( that’s on sunny days, too 😉 ) and I love to spend rainy afternoons wandering around a favorite art museum.  What are some of your favorite activities for the days of grey?

  • Design Foraging: Artsy Nesting

    Design Foraging: Artsy Nesting

So if you read yesterday’s late afternoon post, you’ve heard the news– Mr. Forager and I have officially moved to Seattle!  That’s right, no more traveling around, no more putting up with someone else’s decor taste or grody furnishings.  We’ve rented a sweet little mid-century apartment in a beautiful Seattle neighborhood and I’ve been completely obsessed with furnishing it.  Since I’m not working yet ( Did I mention I now have to get a real J-O-B? ), we’ve been furnishing on a “for now” budget until we have two incomes coming in.  And then there’s all my lovely home goodies in storage back in Florida.  I can’t wait to see them again, but am having serious issues remembering what I kept!  So I’ve been doing a bit of day dreaming today.. looking at lovelies that would be perfect for our first real home together.  My favorite colors, a little artsy for me, a bit rustic for Mr. F.

  • Design Foraging: Seattle, I <3 You

Mr. Forager and I are beyond excited to make Seattle our home!  The city holds such a special place in our hearts, after a long friendship, Seattle is where Mr. F & I finally fell in love.  We can’t wait to get back, settle in, and start getting to know the city again.  I’m afraid we’ll be walking around for a long time with huge grins on our faces!  To celebrate our arrival in The Emerald City, I’ve rounded up some design finds to show our Seattle spirit.  Enjoy!

I hope you don’t mind me gushing about my favorite city too much!  Mr. F & I have been waiting a long time for this.  We arrive on Saturday and that’s when the real fun begins– apartment shopping.  Gah!  But in the meantime, we’ll enjoy the cool air and grey skies.  I hope the mountains come out to greet us.
